About Us
Hello! I’m Pamela Workman, Thank you for taking time to read about my jewelry making journey!
My Fascination with jewelry began when I was young and would admire my Grandmothers jewelry. She would always tell me that once she was gone, I could choose pieces from her collection for myself.
The concept of losing my much loved Grandmother in order that I could own her jewelry drastically changed my perspective on jewelry for the rest of my life.
Being married to my husband for 37 years, who is a successful entrepreneur, and raising our two children who are now employed in careers of their choice, I found myself with time and energy to pursue my love of jewelry, but quickly realized I needed some education about the components that go into making it.
In 2007 I received my gemology education, however, was surprised to come away having learned things I never imagined I would learn.
Sadly, I gained awareness about the hardships experienced by the hard working miners whose inconsistent and drastically low pay didn’t allow them access to basic health care, or education for their children. I learned about how the earth is often destroyed from the process of mining and frequently it’s left in that condition of disarray. However, what I was especially horrified by was to learn about the unscrupulous people who resorted to horrific measures of cruelty to their fellow human beings, in the mining of diamonds.
Using the skills I learned from training in metalsmithing, along with my newly gain awareness about the supply chain of components that go into making jewelry, I turned my focus to making jewelry with mindfulness to the fair treatment of the hard-working people who bring these components to market including resolving the potential health risks to the cutters if the rough by providing masks and air filters in order to eliminate the exposure of inhaing the dust. Tracing the origin back to the condition the earth was left in one mining wash complete.
Today, I am happy to be able to offer my handcrafted jewelry with carefully selected components, as much as possible, ensuring the components I use came from a transparent supply chain using Sustainable methods in mining, fair treatment of the people , to the best of my ability, choose components that aren’t connected to cruel treatment of people or our planet.
My goal is that each piece of jewelry I design and make offers the person wearing it the opportunity to feel good, not only because the jewelry is comfortable to wear, but also because they can share a story to others that they can feel good about.
